Abstract:

Includes photographic prints and negatives of trees, soil and other natural features in various California locations, including Bull Creek, Ferndale and other areas in Mendocino, Humboldt and Alameda Counties. Includes many aerial photographs of these regions, as well as a few of the San Francisco Bay and an unidentified region in Thailand.

Paul J. Zinke was born in Los Angeles, California, on November 10, 1920. He studied forestry and soil science at the University of California, Berkeley and joined the faculty at the School of Forestry in 1957. In addition to teaching he studied and mapped soil-vegetation types in California, the American West, and internationally, including Brazil and Thailand. He remained active in the field after he retired in 1992. Zinke died on August 18, 2006 in Oakland, California.
